Promote your business and generate a little brand recognition by handing out personalized ink pens at your next trade show, conference or business meeting. Use these strategies to print pens that your customers will actually use instead of just tossing into a desk drawer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stay on budget by ordering inexpensive pens in a variety of colors and styles. While some customers prefer ballpoint pens, others might like roller balls or fountain pens. Some like removable caps while others prefer pens that they can retract with a twist or a click. Stock an assortment and let your customers choose their favorites.

  2. Step 2

Find "upscale" looking metal pens that even your affluent customers won't hesitate to use during a business meeting. Offer versions with refillable cartridges so they won't discard the pens once they've depleted the ink.

  3. Step 3

Personalize other types of pens like highlighters that will become handy tools in your client's office. Also consider having other items printed with your company's logo like staplers, mouse pads and keychains.

  4. Step 4

Order pens that feature a hook, chain or string through the top. Your clients will hang them from their belts, purses or bags for added convenience, meaning your logo will also remain out in the open for other potential customers to see. (See Resources)

  5. Step 5

Look for novelty pens that customers will use and keep around for the fun factor. Personalize versions that hold bubbles, a stack of small self-adhesive notes, a magnifying glass or tiny toy cars, for example (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Before you sign a printing contract, check with the company to see what type of file you'll need to send for them to accurately print your logo, company name or title. Ask for a proof so you can check the design to ensure it appears in the correct colors, size and position.
