How to Write a Fictional Blog

Blogging has emerged as a major form of online communication, and multiple sub-genres exist, such as business blogs and fashion blogs. One exciting blog type is the fictional blog. These blogs are entirely made up by the author and can form the basis of a novel, or act as a stand-alone work. Follow these tips for writing a fictional blog.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the type of fictional blog you want to write. Will this be a genre story, such as romance or horror, or will you stick to general fiction? This will help you determine the overall length of your piece.

    • 2

Determine whether your blog will announce that it is fictional or leave the reader guessing. Fictional blogs can take either form. If your story is narrated in the first person, it might be fun to keep the fact that it is fiction a secret. Be prepared; some readers may feel duped when they learn the truth.

    • 3

Establish a writing schedule. Since blogs are typically promoted through other websites, you will develop a reader base. These readers will want to see story updates periodically, and writing on a regular basis will keep them interested.

    • 4

Choose a blog template that reflects your storyline. For example, if you are writing a horror story, choose a dark background and colors like red and black. For more feminine fiction, a pastel template and fun font better conveys your ideas.

    • 5

End each entry at a natural point, as you would end a chapter if you were writing in the traditional way. Think of the blog as a new way to write the same type of material, but try not to be excessively wordy. What traditional readers may go back and read again, web readers tend to skim.

    • 6

Link to other fictional blogs. A great way to build your subscription base is by connecting with other bloggers whose work would appeal to your audience as well.
