Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Take note of the child's behavior. Sexually abused children will often know things they should not about sex. A child may also display seductive behavior that's inappropriate for her age group. She may also separate herself from the family and appear withdrawn.
Step2
Monitor the time the child spends on the Internet. Online sexual child abuse typically takes place in the later evening hours. Your child may use an Internet account belonging to someone else as a way to hide his activities.
Step3
Look through the child's computer. Check for any inappropriate emails or files containing pornographic materials.
Step4
Question any strange packages or gifts. Your child may be a victim of online sexual abuse if she receives gifts or mail from a person you don't know.
Step5
Step in and take control of the situation. If you suspect online sexual abuse, you need to get help right away. Call a child abuse hotline and give as much information as possible about the situation (see Resources).
