Christmas light curtains can add a touch of elegance to any home during the holiday season. They drape evenly to create the appearance of a lit curtain. Even though they look different, curtains are as easy to hang up as regular light strands.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Christmas light curtain
  • Staple gun or hooks
  • Exterior extension cord
  • Ladder
  1. Step 1

Buy Christmas light curtains with connections on both ends. This will allow you to plug the strand into other strands. Make sure to purchase the kind that remain lit if one light goes out. This will save you from a lot of frustration.

  2. Step 2

Decide exactly where you want the Christmas light curtains to hang. Perhaps it's along the front of your porch or along the entire front of your home.

  3. Step 3

Attach an exterior extension cord to the first strand to make sure that it will reach an outlet. Once you know that it can be plugged in, remove the extension cord.

  4. Step 4

Staple the beginning of the top light strand in the place where you want the lights to start. If you're uncomfortable putting staples in your house, screw hooks along the roof frame and use these to secure the Christmas lights.

  5. Step 5

Run the light curtain down a little further, attaching the top strand via hook or staple every six inches or so. You want to keep the curtain from sagging in any particular spot.

  6. Step 6

Continue until you've hung the first strand. Plug a second strand into it and continue to attach it to the house.

  7. Step 7

String the lights along the entire area you want to display. Once you come to the end, secure the last part of the light curtain. Admire your work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always plug in all lights first to make sure they all light.
  • Change the bulb out if you want the light curtain to blink. Do this before you attach the lights to the house.
  • Store Christmas lights in their boxes or wrapped around something like a spool. This will keep them from getting tangled for next year.
