How to Prevent Scaly Skin
Scaly skin can caused by a variety of factors, including skin conditions, exposure to allergens or toxins, sunburn or simply sensitive skin. Regardless of the cause, scaly skin can be embarrassing and often uncomfortable. It can cause pain, irritation and itchiness. 1
Shower in cool or tepid water instead of hot water. Hot water quickly strips the skin of its natural oils, causing irritation and even scaly skin for those with sensitive skin.
-
2
Apply moisturizers, creams or ointments as soon as you get out of the shower. The majority of moisture in the skin evaporates as quickly as three minutes after leaving the shower, but applying creams and other moisturizers quickly will help to hold the moisture in and prevent scaly skin.

Soothe dry, itchy, scaly skin with cold-pressed olive oil. Simply rub the oil generously into affected areas. Olive oil can be used on the entire body, including the face, as it helps to moisturize while fighting bacteria which causes infection and acne.
-
4
Use a cream fortified with vitamin D which helps to regulate the speed that skins cells grow at and prevents scaly patches. Vitamin D, however, should not be used on the face.
-
5
Protect your skin with minimum 30 SPF sunscreen, not only to reduce the risks of skin cancer and sunburn, but also to prevent over-drying of your skin due to UV rays.
-
6
Consider photo therapy if you have a chronic skin condition. Photo therapy treatment will vary depending on your particular condition and skin type and should be performed by a professional; however, regular treatment can help to prevent scaly skin once and for all.
