How to Modify Form Field Appearance in Adobe Acrobat

One way to revamp a form in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional is to modify the appearance of certain form fields within your PDF. You can change the border color, thickness and line style. You can add a fill as well as change the type of font, font size and font color.

Things You’ll Need:

• Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional

1. Start Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, and open a PDF document from your files that contains a form field of which you want to modify the appearance.
2. Choose the "View" menu, point to "Toolbars" and click "Forms" to open the "Forms" toolbar onto the Adobe Acrobat desktop.
3. Select the type of form field you would like to modify from the "Forms" toolbar. If you hover your mouse over the buttons on the toolbar, a tooltip will tell you what tool each of the buttons represents. Once you select the tool, all the form fields created with that tool will be highlighted in black on the PDF.
4. Double-click the form field to which you want to modify the appearance. The properties dialog box for that form field will appear.
5. Right-click the "Appearance" tab from the dialog box to display the appearance properties for the selected form field.
6. Use the drop-down boxes and lists to set the border color, fill color, line thickness and line style in the "Borders and Colors" section of the dialog box. Choose a font size, text color and font in the "Text" section of the dialog box.
7. Click the "Close" button when you are happy with the appearance changes you have made. The dialog box will close and you will be brought back to the form field to which you have just changed the appearance. Continue to modify any other form fields in the same manner.
