Step 1
Stand directly in front of your seat and sweep both hands all the way down the back of your kilt as you sit. This maneuver prevents contact between your skin and a publicly used chair and separates the kilt's pleats to minimize wrinkling.
-
Step 2
Cross your ankles and let your knees fall to the sides, making sure the fabric between your knees falls downward (if it doesn't, press on the fabric). This posture protects your modesty, with or without undergarments, and preserves a masculine seated position.
-
Step 3
Pay attention to keeping covered as you move while seated. Traditionally, men in kilts do not wear undergarments, but if you sit properly, no one should know whether you're wearing them or not.
-
Step 4
Uncross your ankles, press your knees together and use both hands to sweep the back of your kilt as you stand up. Perform these actions in a quick, fluid motion to secure coverage as you transition from sitting to standing.
