How to Sort a Playlist on an iPod

Sorting songs into playlists on an iPod may be tricky for those who are not techno savvy. Luckily, Apple makes sorting playlists on an iPod simple and straightforward. Spend time perusing through iTunes and playing with the different features. Create playlists as soon as you start downloading music to iTunes and transfer them to your iPod.

Things You'll Need:

  • IPod
  • IPod USB cable
  1. Step 1

    Plug your USB cord into your iPod and connect it to the computer. Wait for iTunes to come up on your computer. Download the iTunes application when prompted to do so. Bring up iTunes on your start menu if it is already installed.

  2. Step 2

    Create folders for you playlists by clicking on the plus sign at the bottom left hand corner of your screen. Type the name in the box that you want to call the folder. Pick a name that can easily identify the music in the folder, such as "80s music," "dance music" or "workout tunes."

  3. Step 3

    Go to the music library once all of the folders are created. Click on the music icon that is listed under library on the upper left hand side of the screen. Wait for catalog of music to appear.

  4. Step 4

    Look for the first song that you want to sort. Click on the song title with the left mouse button. Hold the button down and drag the song to the folder. Release the mouse button once the song title is over the folder name and the folder has been highlighted in a blue rectangle.

  5. Step 5

    Continue to add songs to the folders until the playlist is complete. Add newly downloaded songs to folders in the same manner.

  6. Step 6

    Create as many playlist folders as needed, at any time. Add individual titles to as many different playlists as desired. Wait for the playlists to load onto the iPod before disconnecting the USB cable.
