Step 1
Decorate the outdoor cat house in a color that complements the exterior of your house. Let it add to your property value.
-
Step 2
Place the cat house so that it has at least partial exposure to the sun. If you live in a warm climate, make sure the cat house has adequate shade and gets plenty of breezes.
-
Step 3
Provide the cat house with a source of water. Running water such as that found in a small fountain is less likely to attract mosquitoes. Also running water is something that attracts cats. Make sure the cat has easy access to the clean water.
-
Step 4
Make lookout spots for the cat at varying levels. You can put tree limbs in the cat house for a natural climbing surface or you can create different levels from other materials.
-
Step 5
Add greenery to the cat house. Cats like to nibble on grass, so provide small containers of grass that is safe for your cat to eat.
-
Step 6
Give the outdoor cat house a retreat area. The cat needs some place to go to get out of the rain. This can be a small, ventilated box or some other nook that your cat can curl up in to go to sleep.

Step 7
Cover wooden posts with sisal rope to create scratching posts, or use other materials for this purpose.
