Although the rear bike tire reattaches just like the front tire, putting the whole rear wheel back on is more complicated than the front. But if you get a flat on your rear tire, you'll need to know how to reattach it. All it takes is a little knowledge and a little confidence for you to reattach your rear tire.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rag
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Clean the rims of your wheel. Wipe off any grease or oil and knock off blobs of old glue.

  2. Step 2

Apply glue in an even coat around the rim and let it dry before applying a second coat.

  3. Step 3

Glue the tire in a thin line down the center of the basetape all around the inside of the tire. Let it dry and apply a second coat.

  4. Step 4

Inflate the tube enough to round it out and put the valve through the valve hole of the tire.

  5. Step 5

Install one edge of the tire around the wheel and the tube, tuck the tube under the tire and work the tire over the rim, working your hands around the tire in opposite directions, starting from the valve. When you get to the ground, lift the wheel up and pop on the last part of the tire.

  6. Step 6

Put the chain around the cog it was on before you took the wheel off. This works best if you shift to the smallest rear sprocket before you remove the wheel.

  7. Step 7

Lift the bike off the ground with one hand and place the wheel back into the frame and the small cog back into the chain loop. Make sure the wheel is completely centered and locked into the frame.
