The preview pane in Microsoft Word is a tool you can use to quickly scan or read over a Word document. The preview pane displays the document in a small window. You don't need to open the document to read it; all you have to do is highlight it. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can search for a specific document or quickly proofread a document before printing it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Click the Windows "Start" button. Click on "Programs" and "Microsoft Word." Open Word.
Step2
Select "File" on the top of the menu. Choose "Open" from the list.
Navigate to the document you want to preview.
Step3
Locate the "Views" icon on the right side of the toolbar, next to the "Tools" menu. Click on the "Views" icon, select the down arrow and choose "Preview." The document will appear in the window on the right side of the screen.
Step4
Move your cursor to the top, bottom and side edges of the preview window. Drag the outlines to make the window bigger or smaller.
Step5
Double-click the top blue title bar to make the preview window take up the whole screen. Double-click again to bring it back to the previous size.
Step6
Review your document. To make changes, click the "Open" box on the bottom right of the window.
Step7
Click the "Tools" menu. Choose "Delete" to delete the highlighted file and "Print" to print it. Click "Rename." Type in the new document name over the old one.
