Acrylic nails are popular with women of all ages today. Not only do they make you feel attractive, but they are an outward expression of fashion choices. When applying acrylic nails at home or changing polish, buffing and applying cuticle oil are two very important steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a proper buffing brick and always check to make sure that there is no wear and tear on the surface of the brick. Buffing bricks fit nicely into the hand and are relatively inexpensive at discount or beauty supply stores.

  2. Step 2

Dust off any residue from shaping the nail or removing the polish. Use a large, old makeup brush to get into the crevices of the nail and make sure to brush in one direction, sweeping debris away from the hand.

  3. Step 3

Rub the brick in a quick back and forth motion across each nail. Twist the finger slightly so the surface of the buffing brick touches the entire rounded surface of the nail. Continue to inspect the nail occasionally to check for smoothness and shine.

  4. Step 4

Finish by buffing in the opposite direction, going with the grain of the nail. Buffing helps to seal the nail and smooth out any rough edges left on the acrylic, keeping water out and the nail healthy.

  5. Step 5

Wipe cuticle oil around the entire edge of the cuticle after you finish buffing. Use the small brush in the bottle and apply a quick swipe of oil on each nail. At this point it is not important to be specific with the brush or where the oil is, only applying the correct amount of oil.

  6. Step 6

Rub the oil into each nail cuticle, massaging the cuticle to ensure that you evenly distribute the oil. Allow the oil to absorb into the cuticle before washing or wiping your hands.
