Step 1
Remove the magazine from the M14 service rifle before disassembling it. Next, activate the safety, lock the bolt so it's all the way back, then release the safety and fire the weapon, making sure you point it away from people. Charge the handle of the M14, and turn the safety back on.

Lay the M14 on its back, then grasp the trigger guard and pull up. It should pop open.

Slide the trigger guard as well as the firing mechanism back out of the stock of the M14 rifle as you disassemble it. You will find that the stock will also come free of the rifle as you do so.

Step 4
Grasp the assembly rod, press down on the back of it, then turn it. Slowly, cautiously, pull the rod out of the M14 rifle as you disassemble it.

Step 5
Press gently down on the spring guide, and carefully slide the guide pin out.

Step 6
Turn the operating rod as you slide it back. You'll find that you won't have to turn it very much as you disassemble a M14 rifle. The operating rod should fall out of the rifle.

Step 7
Take the bolt and slide it gently forward, then angle it downward so it, too, comes out of the M15 rifle as you disassemble it.

Step 1
Repeat the above steps, but in the reverse order, when you reassemble a M14 rifle.

Step 2
Remember to slide the assembly rod back onto the M14 rifle, press it in gently, then turn it a little as you reassemble the M14 rifle.

Step 3
Pull the bolt back when you are finished reassembling the M14 rifle, then fire the rifle into the air.

Put the safety back on when you are finished reassembling the M14 rifle.
