A space theme bedroom or study is a easy dream to make come true. Using a basic lamp kit and a little creativity, you can make a glowing star lamp, which is the perfect touch to any planetary design. Below is just one way to create a star lamp that glows in the dark and in the light.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lamp kit
  • Lampshade
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Stars
  • Needle
  • Hole punch
  • Sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Purchase a lamp kit at any craft store and most home improvement stores. The kit should include the electrical parts of the lamp and a wooden base. Some kits contain a plain lampshade but this can be purchased separately.

  2. Step 2

Paint the lampshade the desired color. A good choice would be blue or black but it really is up to you. Let it dry before moving on to the next step.

  3. Step 3

Stick glow in the dark plastic stars on the outside of the shade in the pattern or configuration of your choice. Buy these stars in any major department store or toy store. Be sure that there is space between the stars as too many stars could ruin the final effect.

  4. Step 4

Use a sharp upholstery needle or hole punch, depending on the size of the chosen lampshade, to mark the perimeter of the glow stars from Step 3. You want to poke out the outline of the star into the surface of the lampshade. Individual holes should be evenly spaced and not touching.

  5. Step 5

Sand the surface of the wooden base lightly with fine sandpaper until it has an even, smooth surface.

  6. Step 6

Paint the surface of the wooden base the color of your choice and consider applying more plastic stars or rocket ships. Allow the lamp to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.

  7. Step 7

Assemble the lamp following the instructions that came in the lamp kit. Turn on the lamp to see the star outlines against the walls or turn off the lamp to look at the stars glowing on the lamp's surface.
