Rubber tube fishing lures are quick and easy to make. They are a great lure to get inactive fish interested in the bait. Try dropping one into clear water where you know the bass are lazing about and see what happens.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rubber medical tubing
  • Knife or sharp scissors
  • Fishhooks
  • Pliers
  • Fishing line
  • Swivel
  • Paint
  • Sinker
  1. Step 1

Gather your supplies. The rubber medical tubing only needs to be thick enough in diameter to slide down over a hook.

  2. Step 2

Cut off a 6-inch piece of the tubing. Lay the tube on a flat cutting surface. Cut an angle on one end. Start about two inches above the end and taper to the end. As you make the cut, you create a pointed end.

  3. Step 3

Tie enough fishing line on the hook to make a leader. Use a 5/0 or 6/0 hook for best results.

  4. Step 4

Slide the rubber tube over the fishhook. Make sure the pointed end goes first and that it extends beyond the bend of the hook.

  5. Step 5

Take the pliers and bend the fishhook at a slight angle. This causes the rubber tube lure to spin as you troll it through the water. You can adjust the angle of the hook to regulate the amount of spin you get.

  6. Step 6

Fasten a swivel to the other end of the leader line. Because the rubber tube lure spins as you are fishing, it is important that you not skip this step.

  7. Step 7

Paint the rubber tube your favorite color for catching fish. The paint chips off after some usage, but it's not hard to put another coat of paint on it. Or you can leave the tube its natural color if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the pointed end of the tubing frequently. Fish can bite if off as they nibble on the hook. Replace the old tube with a new one if this happens.
  • If you want the lure to sink into deeper water, attach a small sinker to it.
