Fishing is a great way to relax, and it doesn't have to be an expensive hobby. With the right equipment, you can even make your own propeller plug lures, which allow you to spend money on other aspects of your hobby, like boat rental.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cedar lumber
  • Drill
  • Rasp
  • File
  • Brass sheets
  • Hand snips
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Dish washers
  • Needle nose pliers
  1. Step 1

Saw some cedar lumber into blocks about 6 inches long and 1 to 2 inches square.

  2. Step 2

Draw an X from corner to corner on the end of the block. Drill a hole through the center of the X.

  3. Step 3

Rasp and file an oblong shape from the block about 3 1/2 inches long with the drilled hole as its center running lengthwise.

  4. Step 4

Cut a sheet of brass about 1 1/4 inches long and 5/16 inches wide. Use hand snips to cut a shape like a circle with two triangles coming off at either end.

  5. Step 5

Smooth the triangles with a file into rounded flames with ends angled in opposite directions.

  6. Step 6

Drill a hole through the center of the circle and twist the flames in opposite directions so they'll spin. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 with another sheet of brass.

  7. Step 7

Slide a wire through the hole in the plug and then place dish washers on either side. Put the two propellers on and then dish washers on the outside. Cut the wire off, leaving a little extra room to crimp it back on both sides using needle nose pliers.
