How to Create Love Chains for Homecoming Mums
Many high school students use chrysanthemums as the basis for their homecoming corsages, elaborately decorating them with bows, streamers and other objects until they are very large and sometimes even hang down to the floor. One attachment to the homecoming mum is the love chain, which is made from ribbon in the school's colors.

1
Begin with crafter's ribbon in your school's colors. Try 3/4-inch wide ribbon to start. For each foot of chain, cut 20 3-inch strips of ribbon in one color and two 30-inch strips of ribbon in the other color.
-
2
Tape the ends of a short piece of ribbon together so it looks like a heart. If you think of the ribbon as having a top and bottom side, tape the ends so the top side of each end are pressed together and the ends are inside the loop.

3
Thread the next piece of ribbon through the first and tape it together in the same way so it is interlocked with the first and turned 90 degrees.
-
4
Continue until you have the length you want.

5
Tape the first long strip of ribbon in the second color to the top of the chain. Weave the strip front to back, over the taped ends of the loops, concealing the tape. You will only be able to hide the tape in every other heart because the alternating hearts are turned 90 degrees. Cut and secure the tape to the bottom of the chain.

Weave in the second long strip of ribbon, this time concealing the taped ends of the hearts that weren't covered in Step 5.
