Step 1
Write quality articles that will appeal to a large mass of the population, not just a select few.
-
Step 2
Use your spell checker! Reading your article out loud also helps pick up some of those pesky grammar mistakes as well. People won't want to read your other articles if your grammatically challenged. It must have 'flow'.
-
Step 3
Keep it short (if you can). Internet users are foaming at the mouth for the information you can provide but their attention spans are shorter than a toddler's.
-
Step 4
Use a GOOD photo or go a step further and spruce it up with a video. Instructional screen shots are a fabulous addition to your steps as well, if they can apply.
-
Step 5
Know your keywords. Those words people will type into the search engines to find your information. Use the main keywords in your title as they hold the most traffic pushing weight.
-
Step 6
Complete your profile. Have a photo and a little about yourself. This makes you more appealing and can help bring you traffic through eHow's search engine if you list the types of areas you are most likely to write about.
-
Step 7
Hang out on the forums! A huge part of eHow readership is the eHow members themselves. They are also the ones most likely to rate and comment on your articles.
-
Step 8
Read, rate and comment on other ehow member's articles. Most will return the favor, if even from sheer curiosity when they see that you've commented on their articles.
-
Step 9
Take advantage of the easy social bookmarking links on the page of every article. A lot of traffic can be generated by using them. Go a step further and submit to other social bookmarking sites not directly linked from the eHow page (there are hundreds of them!).
-
Step 10
Link to your articles! Your MySpace & Facebook pages, your blog, your personal website, your email signature line, other forums discussing your topics, etc.
-
Step 11
Answer related questions on Yahoo Answers and link to relevant articles. (I do a search for my topics after I write an article)
-
Step 12
Email your family and friends and tell them of your newest article. Some of them will send the link on to their friends and family in return. If your article is good enough, maybe it will go viral. Never know!
-
Step 13
Read through the 'Write' tab on eHow for other pointers.
-
Step 14
Read some of my articles related to specific areas of generating traffic and writing good articles for more detailed information. (I've listed some below in the resources section for your convenience).
