Fruit that’s in season isn’t just fresher, tastier and more nutritious. It’s cheaper, too. All you need to know is what to look for when. Here’s a breakdown of how to eat fruit in season during spring, summer, fall and winter.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shake up some smoothies in the spring with strawberries, mango and pineapple. Apricots are in season, too, for drying or preserving.

  2. Step 2

Serve cold, refreshing fruit at summer get-togethers. Plates should be filled with watermelon, raspberries and nectarines. For dessert, get your bake on, making blueberry, blackberry, cherry, peach and plum cobblers and pies (ice cream on top, of course).

  3. Step 3

Keep the doctor away with an apple a day in the fall. Other nutritious in-season fall fruits include grapes, pears and pomegranates, giving you a wide variety of options for fun, creative fall dishes.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze all your orange juice in the winter (lemonade and grapefruit juice, too). Drink all you can and freeze the rest for spring, summer and fall.

Tips & Warnings
  • • Incorporate in-season fruits into as many of your recipes as you can. Top your homemade pizza with pineapple. Serve wine spritzers that are spruced up with pomegranate seeds. And squeeze fresh lemon juice onto your salads.
