You want to wash your windows and you have decided to abandon your old ways and go with the same tools the professionals use. That means you are going to use a window cleaning blade (a squeegee) to scrape water off the glass. Although the process does require a bit of skill, it is not difficult to clean your windows with a window cleaning blade.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A window cleaning blade (squeegee)
  • Newspaper or lint-free cloth
  • Wash water
  • Rinse water
  1. Step 1

Wash your window with an appropriate, environmentally friendly glass cleaner; rinse. Select a new squeegee with a firm, clean rubber blade. If you’re using an old tool, clean junk and fibers off the blade edge before you start.

  2. Step 2

Start at the top of the window on one side with the long edge of the blade parallel to the frame at the side of the window. Press firmly and evenly on the blade and draw it horizontally across the top of the glass.

  3. Step 3

Go back to the same edge to start your second pass. Position your blade so that it overlaps the swipe you made the first time. You want to pick up with this pass the trailing bead of water the blade left behind on the first pass.

  4. Step 4

Continue until you have scraped water from the entire window. Keep an even pressure across the length of the blade. Blade the inside of your window back and forth, blade the outside up and down, to reveal streaks and dirt left behind.

  5. Step 5

Follow up with newspaper or a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any little bits of water.
