Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat or Philips screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Electrical tape
  • New Light Fixtures
  • Ladder
  • Electrical Connectors
  • Cleaning Rag
  1. Step 1

Be careful of the danger posed by electricity; do not forget to turn it off at least for the area you will be working in. Keep the tools with you as well as the ladder and put up the ladder in a way that provides easy access to the fixture. The fixture may be on the wall or on the ceiling.

  2. Step 2

Once you have set up the ladder, access the old fixture and see what you have to do before you do anything. You do not want to unscrew any part of the old fixture but the whole. With one hand holding the old fixture unscrew. it from the wall or ceiling as the case may be. Once it is unscrewed it should only be held by some wires. Remove the tape if there is any and proceed to unscrew the old connector. The old fixture should come off easily now.

  3. Step 3

Clean everything before getting ready to install a new light fixture. It removes dirt and grime that could cause an electrical short. Use the rag to wipe everything clean and you are ready for the next step.

  4. Step 4

Install the new fixture. Once you have followed the previous steps you can go ahead with the installation of the new one. First connect the electrical system and put some electrical tape over the whole connection. This prevents any leakage of electricity from your connection and saves it from shorting out. Then screw in you new fixture. Do not screw it in tight just in case the electrical connections or the fixture itself are not good.

  5. Step 5

Test the new fixture. Turn the electricity back on and see if everything is all right. Check dimmer switches or regular switches to make sure everything is fine. If you are satisfied that everything is fine, go ahead and tighten the screws and finish installing your new light fixture.

  6. Step 6

Put everything back in its place and once all is done then give your new light fixture a final test to admire and congratulate yourself on doing such a fine job.
