Step 1
Observe the lion that you are trying to communicate with. Notice how it's behaving. Is it restless, anxious, calm, aggressive or playful? You may not want to try to communicate with a lion when they are aggressive, territorial or during mating season. Also do not circle the lion or crouch down, because the cat might think you are trying to attack it.
-
Step 2
Determine the sounds that the lion is making. Lions can purr, hiss, cough, snarl and roar. This can give you a clue to their mood.
-
Step 3
Notice their facial expressions. If their ears are moving around, they might be curious. If their ears are pointed forward with the fur side showing, they are most likely planning to attack. When they are in a playful mood, submissive positions (lying down or sitting down) may be alright. However, if the lion is trying to attack you, more defensive positions are appropriate like putting your arms above your head to mimic a bull. When a lion attacks, you have to be ready to defend yourself with weapons if you expect to survive.
-
Step 4
Wash your hands and change your clothes if you smell like meat or food. Lions will sense this on you and potentially attack or become aggressive.
-
Step 5
Speak in a calm, caring and compassionate voice. You want the lion to understand you mean no harm.
