Things You'll Need:
- Paint
- Imagination
-
Step 1
PAINT! First you need to figure out a color scheme that you want to use. If you don't feel confident about matching colors you can get help at any home improvement or home decor store. They usually have a series of 2-5 colors that go well together, so that you will have a concise look. Remember white always goes with any color and brings brightness and depth to the look of a room!
-
Step 2
COLOR TECHNIQUES! There are many ways to paint a room. You could paint all of the walls the same color. Just remember if you do this it should be done with a light color. If you paint all of the walls in a room a dark color it will have a tendency to make the room feel small and could even give it a depressing feeling. (see picture to the left)
-
Step 3
FLIP FLOP! A new fad that is very appealing to the eye is painting alternate walls with alternate colors. For example, you may paint the two longer walls in a room a light beige color and the two shorter walls a nice dark red color. The light beige brings down the tone of the dark red in a nice way. (see picture to the left)
-
Step 4
MIX IT UP! Paint three walls a lighter color and the fourth wall a darker shade of the same color. This give a room dimension and brings more attention to the wall with the darker shade.
-
Step 5
HALF & HALF! Another fad that is popular is painting the top half of a wall one color and painting the bottom half another color. Usually this looks nice when the bottom half of the wall is white or even a wooden texture. (see picture to the left)

on 8/10/2008 Natural lighting, and the availibilty of it should play a large role on the colors you choose. Don't be afraid to go against the norm and make it your own. I have a medium blue room with cream trim (living room), a green room with tan trim (dining room) and a deep yellow room with a dull green trim (spare bedroom). These colors add spice and personality. I am hoping to paint my kitchen a light sunrise orange. I have beautiful sunlight in it and my breakfast nook all day long.
