Learning the value of money can be difficult. I created this simple game to aide my daughter in adding coins. She had so much fun playing the Coin Game, she didn't realize she was learning at the same time!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A container of loose change
  • Dice - we use two
  • Two or more players
Step1
Decide who will go first.
Player 1 rolls the dice.
Step2
What did you roll? Take that number of coins out of the container. For example, if you rolled a seven take seven coins out of the container. Lay the coins on the table - cannot be all pennies, each turn must include one silver coin.
Step3
Add up the total amount of the coins. If you get the answer correct, you get a point.
Step4
Return the coins to the container and pass the dice onto the next player. Continue rolling and counting coins until one player reaches 20 points (or any number of points determined at the beginning of the game).

Have fun!

Tips & Warnings

  • Be positive and encouraging to your child's attempts when counting coins. They may miss a few, but will enjoy spending time with you and learning about money at the same time.
