How to treat a yeast infection with garlic

Most women have experienced the burning, itchy feeling of a monstrous yeast infection at one point or another. Though messy, costly creams seem to work, some studies show that women who frequently get yeast infections can brew up a "super-yeast" that may become resistant to the creams. Here's an all natural treatment that works on the spot and kills the yeast without the mess or the cost.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Garlic cloves
Step1
Confirm that the burning in your pants is indeed a yeast infection. Some women know, others may need to see a doctor.
Step2
Before jumping out of your pants to get a yeast infection cream, grab a medium clove of garlic and peel off the skin.
Step3
Be sure that your hands are clean and make a small slit in the garlic.
Step4
Insert garlic into the vagina. Depending on how sensitive you are, you may experience some burning or not. You can tie a thread or string around the garlic to retrieve it if you'd like, but generally speaking, it will come out on its own with a little push.
Step5
Change the garlic twice a day and treat the infection for 3 days or as long as you feel the symptoms.

Tips & Warnings

  • The more slit/cuts you make in the clove, the more potent it becomes. I personally feel that the garlic soothes the burning symptom.
  • I consulted my midwife and doctor during my pregnancy to use this method and it worked wonders! I have never needed anything more than a day or two of garlic.
  • It works best at the first sign of yeast infection with internal symptoms.
  • Acidophilus supplements would be a good idea to take to keep the good bacteria from dying too!
  • Be sure that you get yourself checked out before starting any treatment.
  • It would be wise not to use this method if you're allergic to garlic.
  • Be sure to consult your doctor if you have any doubts - but many OBGYN's may not be familiar with this method. My D.O. and midwives were the first to recommend it.
