Things You'll Need:
- Manuel to dishwasher if you have one or look model up on net.
- Cleaning supplies, some bleach
- A good brush with small bristles to get into crevices
- A plumber if this doesn't work.
-
Step 1
Dishwashers come in many styles and arrangements for dishes and the way the clean is often the key to what goes wrong.
The cheapest models will not work as a garbage disposal for scraps of food that remain on plates.
Newer models and higher priced models have actual disposals built into them.
Find out what yours has first as features.
Next check to make sure the entire kitchen drain isn't backing up at some point.
Take out the lower rack and see if there is a removable cover to the drain.
Food stuff maybe caught there and building odors etc. -
Step 2
Once you have determined what you think the smell is coming from, take a small amount of bleach and add it to some water. NO detergents.
Next take the little brush and soak it in the bleach mixture.
Clean the cap, the area under the cap, and then replace the cap on the drain. -
Step 3
This is about the most a housewife can find time to do. Maybe call in the big guns of the husband for his expertise on the subject.
Or an 800 number of the manufacturer of the appliance itself.
Then run at least one load of washing with no dishes on the longest cycle, with the hottest temp. Kitchen should be smelling like a dream.
