Setting up a gopher trap is easy, but getting it to work takes these simple steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gopher trap
  • Onion
  1. Step 1

First start by taking your onion and cutting it in quarters. You only need one quarter of a onion, the rest you can use for food.

  2. Step 2

Now take that onion and rub it all over the gopher trap BEFORE you set it. What you want to do is get the onion juice all over the trap. This not only attracts the gophers, but it also covers up the smell of human you leave behind when setting up the trap.

  3. Step 3

Now follow the box instructions to set the trap. All traps are a little different but they should all come with instructions.

  4. Step 4

Now dig up a mound of dirt that the gopher recently made. This is to hide his hole he no longer needs. Now set the trap inside the hole and stake it down, if your trap came with them. If it didnt, you can use string and tie it to the trap and a stick. Shove the stick in the ground.

  5. Step 5

Now just check the trap within the next day or so. What the gopher does is it smells the onion and is attracted to it. It then realizes that his hole has been uncovered and attempts to cover it. The trap is then set off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use onion. You will have such different results by using the onion rather then just setting the trap without one.
  • Be careful not to set off the trap while its in your hands.
  • Dont set the trap and then rub onion on it. You may set off the trap this way.
