Grow Bamboo Plants in Dirt

Bamboo plants are often known as green spiral plants that are often grown in water and moist conditions. It may comes as a surprise that they also can be grown in dirt, too. Sometimes bamboo plants don't always do well in water, yet those plants can grow really well in a pot of dirt. If your bamboo doesn't seem to be doing well in water, try following the steps below to grow it in dirt.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Plant Pot
    • Bamboo
    • Ground Dirt
    • Water
    • Well lit room
      • 1

Remove your bamboo plant from its container of water if it seems to not be doing well. If it looks wilted, or its growth seems to have slowed, try planting it in a pot of dirt.

      • 2

Find a planting pot that has enough room for your bamboo plant to grow in. Don't buy too small of a container, or the roots won't have room to spread. Make sure there is at least 2-3 inches around the container because your bamboo plant will grow fairly fast if it is in good health.

      • 3

Fill the pot with dirt from outside. Soil and dirt from outside will make your bamboo plant grow better than a regular bag of potting soil.Start by putting some dirt into the pot first, and then set your plant and its roots deep into the dirt. Pour more dirt around the plant until it is at least two inches deep.

      • 4

Set your bamboo plant in a room that has a lot of sun. Try putting it in a room that has a lot of windows or is well lit. Bamboo will grow the best in natural sunlight.

      • 5

Water your bamboo plant every few days. Do not let the soil get too dry. Keep it moist and well drained.

      • 6

Tear any brown or dried out parts of your bamboo plant off to encourage new growth. Your bamboo plant should grow to be very tall, green, and healthy. Bamboo plants can live for many years.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Be patient. Your bamboo will grow with time.

    • Don't over-tend to the plant. Give it just the right amount of attention, water and sunlight.
