When it comes to staying in tip top physical shape, injuries can occur. When those injuries are in the shoulder region, it is important to allow the shoulder to recover and rest.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice packs
  • Heating pad
  1. Step 1

Seek a physicians care. If the shoulder injury is painful and you believe you may have sustained an injury requiring a doctor's care or x-ray, visit a physician immediately.

  2. Step 2

Rest the shoulder. When trying to rest a strained shoulder, it is important to limit range-of-motion activities and weight-bearing activities. While these are most often associated with sports and weight lifting, every day activities can fall into these categories as well. Lifting children and groceries, for instance, can both be considered weight bearing.

  3. Step 3

Use ice for swelling. If the shoulder is swelling from the strain, an ice pack for 15 minutes every 60 minutes can help to alleviate that swelling.

  4. Step 4

Heat for pain. A heating pad, alternated with the ice pack, can help to naturally alleviate any pain associated with the shoulder strain.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always seek medical attention when the injury occurs. Should injuries be left untreated, they can be debilitating and can cause permanent injury.
