The world is limitless when you take responsibilty for yourself.

Learn some basic techniques to make changes by teaching yourself to take responsibility.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination
  1. Step 1

Accept the fact that you are responsible for where you are. Stop blaming circumstance or others. You are where you are in life because of choices you made. If you cannot accept the fact that you are responsible you cannot move on. Even if a tragedy or some other events have occurred which you believe led you to the place you are right now, it is your own choice to react to them and accept them the way you do.

  2. Step 2

Let go. Let go of the blame by simply acknowledging that is there is nothing you can do to change the past. You are responsible for the here and now, and whatever occurred in the past is gone. You can continue to blame others for where you are, but what purpose will that serve you now? Blaming yourself is not the same thing as taking responsibility. Letting it all go is the important thing.

  3. Step 3

Seek to change that which you previously felt you were not responsible for. If you blamed your financial situation on your ex-husband, for example, switch the responsibility to yourself now and make a change. What are you doing to change it NOW? Blaming others will do nothing to change your life, so just get over it and do what you can to take responsibility.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid negotiation. There is no one responsible for your life except yourself.
  • Believe. You can make changes in areas that you thought you had no control over.
  • Remember that on some levels you are also responsible for more than just your own well being - live your entire life responsibly.
  • Even if you feel the need to argue that someone else is to blame, it serves no purpose.
  • Let go of the fact that someone else is to blame by telling yourself it doesn't matter who is to blame for the past, only you are responsible for today.
