Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- gardening sheers
- gardening tools (hoe/spade/rake)
Step1
Check your tomatoes daily to be sure they remain healthy. If you see any bugs such as the tomato worm be sure to remove it promptly and dispose.
Step2
Any leaves that are brown or dying should be cut off at the base and removed from the garden. Remember that it's important to keep your garden neat and clean for the best growth possible.
Step3
Make sure to water your tomato plant as it needs it. Too much watering could cause it to rot in the root system and too little water will cause it to die. If in doubt, stick your finger into the soil to be sure it feels moist inside.
Step4
Remove ripe tomatoes in a timely fashion. If you allow tomatoes that are past ripeness to sit on the vine it will cause the plant to slow down or stop production of new fruit. This is because the plant thinks it has fulfilled it's goal of producing seeds. Remove tomatoes just before they split, when fully ripe (or a little from ripe).
Step5
Any tomato that has been damaged by bugs or animals should be disposed of promptly.
