Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- A computer
- A screw driver
- A new graphics card
- A pair of latex gloves
Step1
First you need to get rid of your old graphic card's drivers, not removing the drivers before installing a new card can cause unwanted issues. To remove the drivers right click on the "my computer" icon and find where it says device manager. Go into device manager and find your graphics card, once you find it right click and go into properties. You should see "uninstall drivers". This is by far the hardest step in this process!
Step2
Now you need to figure out how to get into your computer case, no you might need a screw driver or on some cases you can just open a door on the side. Once you figure out how to open your cases go ahead and open it!
Step3
Once your case is open you need to locate your old card, most of the time its in the middle of the board, towards the rear of you computer case. Its tail in actually sticks out the back of the case and has connectors on it. Once you locate it put on your latex or rubber gloves (this is to prevent static shock to your computer), once that is done grasp the card and pull. Some cards are screwed in while others are snapped in, it varies by card!
Step4
Once you have your old card out you can now insert your new one. Simply put the new card in the slot you just removed the old card from.
Step5
Once this is done close up your case and turn on your PC. You Operating System should pick up the new card and attempt to install driver. The drivers also come on the CD that came with your card. Once everything is up and running I would also check your card makers website for any new drivers or updates.
