Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Add dried fruit as a topping.
Try sprinkling a layer of cranberries, blueberries, or strawberries on top of your pancakes. These berries will add vitamin c as well as heart healthy antioxidants to your pancake breakfast.
Step2
Use sugar-free syrup.
In stead of opting for high carb, high calorie, traditional maple syrup, substitute sugar-free pancake syrup. You'll hardly notice a taste difference but will be taking in fewer calories.
Step3
Add fiber to the pancake batter.
When mixing your pancake batter, add a tablespoon of ground flaxseed. Flaxseed is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids which help to reduce inflammation in the body and may reduce the risk of heart disease.
Step4
Sprinkle on some nuts.
Although most nuts are healthy, walnuts and almonds are particularly good choices since they're high in protein and monounsaturated fats. Nuts also help to fill you up so you're less likely to snack later in the day.
Step5
Add some fruit.
Fruits of all types taste delicious on pancakes. Try adding some cooked apples or pears to your morning pancake breakfast.
Step6
Use trans fat free margarine or butter.
Go light on the butter or margarine. If you use margarine, choose one that's trans fat free and lower in calories. You can also get light or whipped butter that has almost half the calories of traditional butter.
