Trying to get that beautiful music off of your phonograph and onto a CD? Then read on my friend!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • A Computer with CD Burner
  • A Microphone
  • A Recording Program
  • A Sound Card
  • A Chord
  • A Phonograph
Step1
everything you will need Now, there are plenty of ways to record music from a Phonograph player, but few of them will get that lovely music onto a CD, MP3 or any other format we use today. This is because most Phonograph players did not come equiped with the connections needed to record directly from the Phonograph player.

So, as my method is the easiest form of recording the music from a phonograph player, let go through it and see if we can't get your favorite old time music off of the phonograph player and into a CD player!

For this operation, you will need to own a Computer. Now, these days, most computers come equiped with its very own small recording system. If yours doesn't, you will need to go out and purchase a recording program. They are relatively cheap in this day and age, and some are even available for free via the internet.

You will also need a Sound Card. MAduio sells a great and affordable little sound card that will work perfectly for this project. Check out www.guitarcenter.com or www.musiciansfriend.com for the best prices!

You are also going to want to get a hold of a simple microphone and a chord to plug it into your Sound Card.

Once you have gotten all these little duckies in a row, we can move onto the next step!
Step2
Once you have everything you need, Its time to set it all up properly to get the best recording that we can. Refer to the poorly drawn picture for set up.

Make sure to set your microphone up so that it can get optimal sound from the phonograph. You don't want it to close or to far away. Give the recording program a good check before you hit record and leave the room.
Step3
Once you are sure that you are getting the best recording properly from the mircophone and sound card, make sure there is no other external noise (i.e. The TV, radio, dishwasher, anything!), then hit the record button and enjoy listening to your music while it records.
Step4
Once you have made a recording of the music you would like on CD, save it to your computer and have it ready to go into a media program to be burned onto a CD.
Step5
Once your computer is done burning the music onto CD, your done!

Now you have your music from the Phonograph player on your very own CD!

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to find the best position for your mic before you record
  • Make sure there is no external noise, you only want to record the music, not other noises
