Step 1
Place your feet shoulder width apart pointing forward. Then slightly turn your feet inward at a 15 degree angle. Turning your feet inward will automatically cause both knees to face inward. This guarding position is called a goat stance and is used to start off punches, kicks and blocks.
-
Step 2
Place hands in the guarding by bending both arms with elbows at the level of your rib cage. Place your hands in the center of your body with open palms and fingers held tightly together. In Wing Chun King Fu, this position is also referred to as wu-sau.
-
Step 3
Lower your left arm while bending at the elbow at a 20 degree angle. Keep you palm open and your fingers together. Place your arm 5-6 inches away from your body and in front of your upper thigh and place the right hand in the chamber with a closed fist.
-
Step 4
Hold your arm on a steady motion. To avoid or block a strike from a punch or kick, shift or move the entire body in the direction of the attack.
-
Step 5
Practice the low block alternating between the left arm and the right arm. Do not look down when executing the block. Looking down gives your opponent or attacker a signal to your movements.
