Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen
  • or computer
  1. Step 1

First, you will have to decide what your topic will be. If you have no choice on the topic then the first step is already decided for you. If not you have to think long and hard on what your interests are. Once you have found the topic go to the next step.

  2. Step 2

Second, once the topic is set then you must make an outline or diagram of your ideas. To make a diagram follow the steps below.
    - Draw a circle in the middle of your paper
    - Inside the circle write the topic of your essay
    - Then draw lines coming out of the circle in the middle of the page.
    - At the end of each of the lines draw another circle.
    - In each of the circles write the main ideas or the main points that you want to make.
    - Then draw lines from each of your main ideas (this may require getting another sheet of paper)
    - At the end of each of these lines draw yet aother circle and inside the circle write facts or information that support the main idea that is in the connecting circle.
This diagram format is one way to create the basic structure for your eassy. Another way that you might prefer is the outline format. To write an outline follow the following steps.
    - To start the outline get a sheet of paper and write your topic on the top of the page.
    - Next write the numbers 1,2, and 3 down the left side of the paper. (Leave a few lines in between the numbers)
    - Under the numbers write the letters a, b, and c.
    - Next to each of the numbers write the main ideas about the topic or the main point that you want to write about.
    - Next to each of the letters write the facts or information that help support the main idea or main point.
When you finish go to the next step.

  3. Step 3

Third, it is time to write a thesis statement! A thesis statement tells the reader what the essay will be about. Now you have to look at your diagram or outline and think to yourself, "what is the point that I will be making?" The thesis statement will have two parts. The first part will state the topic and the second part will state the point of the essay.
When you finish with your thesis statement you are ready to continue to the next step.

  4. Step 4

Next, the body of the essay has to be written. First write the introduction. The introduction in basically a sumarization of all your main ideas. For the next three paragraphs describe one of the main ideas in each. Use all the facts and information from the outlinn or diagram to describe the main idea. Each paragraph should be at least five (5) sentences long. Now all that is left to write is the conclusion. In the conclusion just sum up all of your points and main ideas.
When you are finished writing the introduction, body, and conclusion then you are ready to go to the next step (the final step)!

  5. Step 5

Finally, the last step to finishing your essay is rereading it. This may seem like a useless step but in fact it is very important. When you are rereading look for spelling mistakes and errors in grammer. This can really make your essay better. You have finally finished your essay! This is a very great accomplishment. If you did this essay for a school assignment well I hope you get a wonderful grade! (you deserve it) And if you were writing this for fun then I hope you have a great story to share with others.
