How to Set Up a Yahoo Home Page

Setting up a Yahoo home page on your computer puts all the information you want and need every day at your fingertips, such as your email inbox, news, weather, RSS feeds, sports scores, movie times, TV listings and more. You can customize which services you see on your home page, settings, colors, themes and even add multiple pages to help you organize your page's items.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Yahoo (see link in Resources) and sign in by clicking the "Sign In" link in the upper right corner of the page.

    • 2

Click the "My Yahoo" link in the list at the left side of the page.

    • 3

Click the "Content" button at the left side of the page. The Content area appears above the existing items in your page. You can add an item by clicking its "Add" link. You can preview each item by clicking the "Show Preview" link that appears when you hover over the item. Use the arrow buttons near the bottom of the Content area to see more items. At the right side of the Content area you can search for items or browse through the category links. When you're finished adding items, click the "I'm Done" button to the left of the arrow buttons in the Content area.

Click the "Themes" button next to the Content button at the left side of the page. The Themes area appears. Click the links to customize various options such as My Yahoo Reader, auto-refresh, search assist, timestamps, add confirmation, article previews and to share your page by email. Click "I'm Done" at the bottom of the Options are when you're finished.

    • 6

Click the "Close" button -- it looks like an underscore much like Windows' Minimize button -- in the upper left of any item to close it and remove it from your page.

    • 7

Click the "Settings" button in the upper right of any item to refresh the item, change its settings, remove it, share it or get more information about it.

    • 8

Click any item and drag it to a new location to move it; release the mouse button to drop the item in that location.

Tips & Warnings

  • Click the "New Tab" button near the top of the page under the My Yahoo logo to create a new, blank tab that you can add items to in the same manner as you did the original page. If you're a big sports fan, for example, you might want to have all sports items on a single page.
