How to Grip a Dart
A good dart grip can make or break a throw. There is, of course, no right or wrong way to hold your dart but there are some basic principles to follow, if you hope for any sort of success or accuracy. The end goal is to find a grip that feels natural to you and then, of course, to hit a bullseye every time.

1
Locate the dart's center of gravity. Try to balance the dart on the edge of your throwing hand, or lightly between your fingers, until it falls neither forward nor back. Grip the center of gravity between your thumb and fingers in your throwing hand.
-
2
Grip your dart neither too loose, nor too tight. Keep your grip relaxed, but firm, almost as if you were holding something fragile. You should never touch the flight (the wings) of the dart.

-
3
Keep your free fingers (the fingers not holding the dart) in an open, comfortable position. Closing these fingers can increase the tension in your hand, or push the dart tip down, both of which will detract from the accuracy of the throw.
-
4
Make sure the tip of the dart faces up, to ensure accuracy. The dart should face up not only in the grip, but also upon release; throwing a dart accurately is very difficult otherwise.
-
5
Find a style that is comfortable for you. While griping the underside of your dart with your thumb, you can grip the other side with anywhere from one to four fingers. More touch points on a dart allows for greater control, but they may also hinder a smooth, relaxed throw.

Tips & Warnings
When gripping the dart with a thumb and two fingers, try moving the thumb slightly behind the center of gravity to obtain more control.
Never throw a dart unless the path to the dart board is clear of players or bystanders.
