Instructions

    • 1

Turn the jeans inside out so you can concentrate on the rip from the inside.

    • 2

Snip away any lengthy fringe that may be hanging down as a result of the rip.

    • 3

Hold the edges of the rip together and stitch it up, making sure your stitches are on firm ground and not held by hope on fringed edges.

    • 4

For extra measure, cut down a fabric patch to fit over the rip and a little outside it. Either iron or sew the patch into place.

    • 5

Turn the jeans outside out and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the rip looks stupid, you may want to sew a jazzy appliqué over the top of it.

  • You can always secure rips with stitching around their edges so they don’t get bigger but keeping the ripped part if that happens to be the trend of the day.

  • Rips in the butt area definitely need to be enforced by a patch.

  • Rips that have grown too wide or frayed cannot be repaired this way without making a huge pucker in the jeans. In those cases use a patch ironed on from the inside in the nearest color of the jeans.
