Now that you've found that perfect pair of pants, getting instruction on how to hem them is often a dilemma we're faced with. We can choose pants that are too long for us if we are too short to fit into our favorite styles, or perhaps the size simply ran a little long. There are lots of easy ways to find out how to hem your pants.

  1. Step 1

    Call your local university or community college, and find out if they have a basic sewing class. If they do, you can sign up and learn hemming.

  2. Step 2

    Call your local fabric shop and ask if they have an instructors available to teach hemming. There may be a skilled employee willing to teach you a new skill. This is often done for free if you are buying their products.

  3. Step 3

    Search online for hemming instructions. Though harder to learn online than in person, basic sewing techniques such as hemming can be learned by reading an instructional manual or website.

  4. Step 4

    Call your mother or an older relative. Sewing is getting to be less common, but many women still know the tricks of basic sewing.

  5. Step 5

    Check out a book on sewing from the library. They are sure to include instructions on your basic hem.
