Have you ever had a dead battery in a boat and not known what to do? Well, it's an easy problem to take care of with a few steps. All you need is some jumper cables and another boat or car (depending on the location of the boat) to help assist.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A boat with a dead battery
  • Jumper cables
  • A boat or car with an operational battery
  1. Step 1

Make sure that there is nothing obstructing the battery.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the boat so that no power is being transmitted from the dead battery.

  3. Step 3

Carefully attach the positive and negative ends of the jumper cables to the battery while taking care to not touch the other ends of the cables together.

  4. Step 4

If the boat is in the water, carefully back another boat up as closely as possible and attach the jumper cables to its battery.

  5. Step 5

Attach to a car battery if the boat is on a trailer on land.

  6. Step 6

Turn the properly operating battery on and allow the two boats (or one boat and one car) to sit idly for three or four minutes.

  7. Step 7

Turn the key of the boat with the dead battery and it should start right up.

  8. Step 8

Allow boat to run for a few minutes before turning off.

  9. Step 9

    Carefully remove jumper cables.
