The polka is a dance step that can be used in a variety of ways. You could dance the polka with a partner in standard dance position, or you could use it in a line dance or even aerobics. Once you have the basic step down, you can vary it endlessly. Give it a whirl.

How to Dance the Polka

Step1
Stand with your feet together and relax your knees.
Step2
Step to the right with your right foot.
Step3
Step to the right with your left foot, bringing your feet back together again.
Step4
Step to the right with your right foot.
Step5
Hop on your right foot, bringing your left foot just slightly off the floor.
Step6
Step to the left with your left foot.
Step7
Step to the left with your right foot, bringing your feet back together again.
Step8
Step to the left with your left foot.
Step9
Hop on your left foot, bringing your right foot just slightly off the floor.
Step10
Repeat the above steps until they feel natural and easy.
Step11
Once you have the steps down, turn yourself 180 degrees on the hop in a clockwise direction.
Step12
Syncopate your steps so that the first beat is emphasized.
