How to Celebrate Our Lady of Fatima Day

Our Lady of Fatima is just one of the many names given to the Blessed Virgin Mary. May 13 is the day that Catholics commemorate the appearance of the Blessed Mother to three children in the city of Fatima. While not a “major” holiday, May 13 is still a day celebrated by Catholics throughout the world. Here is how you can celebrate Our Lady of Fatima Day.

1. Attend a local Mass to celebrate Our Lady of Fatima Day. This is important even if May 13 falls on a weekday. Contact local churches in your area to find when Mass will be celebrated on Our Lady of Fatima Day. Many churches will offer both a morning and afternoon or evening service.

2. Say a Rosary to honor Our Lady of Fatima. If you are a person who says a Rosary every day, make time to say another. You can do this either at church or at home. One of the lesson Our Lady of Fatima taught was the importance of saying the Rosary often.

3. Spend some time at Eucharistic Adoration. While your church may not offer Perpetual Adoration, chances are that a Catholic church in your area will offer Eucharistic Adoration on Our Lady of Fatima Day. This is a great place to say your prayers or simply spend time quietly reflecting on Our Lady of Fatima.

4. Perform acts of penance on May 13. Our Lady of Fatima asked the three children at Fatima to do penance and so should we. You could simply attend confession, say a few prayers or even fast on the day. If nothing else, you could simply give to charity or volunteer during the day.

5. Read Bible verses about the Blessed Mother. The first few chapters of both Matthew and Luke deal with the Blessed Mother and the birth of Christ. This is a great way to remember why Our Lady of Fatima was truly Blessed to begin with.

6. Read about Our Lady of Fatima and why May 13 is such an important day. You could do this by going to your library and picking up books or simply searching online. By spending five or ten minutes reading about the miracles at Fatima, you could increase your own faith and understanding regarding Our Lady of Fatima.
