Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Volleyball net (32 feet x 39 inches)
  • Metal or wood poles (6 feet long)
  • Standard rope cable
  • Sand
  • Hammer

How to Build a Volleyball Pit

  1. Step 1

Find a space in your yard that is 29 feet by 6 inches wide by 59 feet long. Ten feet should be added to each side to clear the boundaries.

  2. Step 2

Dig up at least two inches of the yard for the volleyball pit.

  3. Step 3

Purchase enough sand to fill in the area you dug out of your yard for the volleyball pit. Area is equal to the length multiplied by the width. Fill in the pit with sand.

  4. Step 4

Use a hammer to pound in the four poles (6 feet in length), which will stabilize the net. Make sure the poles are in the middle of the pit.

  5. Step 5

Attach the net to the poles with standard rope cable. Tie it tight and test it to make sure it is taut and secure.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase a volleyball net kit, which has most of the things you will need to build one.
  • Volleyball kits for pools can also be purchased.
  • Test that the poles and net are secure so no one gets injured.
  • Sand will probably need to be refilled at least once a year, depending upon how often you play.
