Herbal teas offer a natural, effective way to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies. Read on to learn how to brew your own herbal tea remedies for your allergies.

Things You'll Need

  • Teapot or pitcher
  • Boiling water
  • 2 parts Nettle leaf
  • 2 parts Eyebright,
  • 1 part Elder flowers
  • 1 part Yarrow
  • 1 part Comfrey leaf (optional)
  • ...
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon chamomile
  • 1 teaspoon calendula
  • 1 teaspoon elder flowers
  • 1 teaspoon yarrow
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons allergy skin wash (See Section Two Above)
  • ¼ cup bentonite clay
  • 3 teaspoons of slippery elm bark powder

Instructions

  1. Seasonal Allergy Herbal Tea Blend

    • 1

      Bring several quarts of water to a boil. Place all the herbs into a separate container. Pour the boiling water over the herbs.

      Cover the herbs and let the tea steep for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Steep overnight for a stronger herbal tea infusion.

      Strain the steeped herbs out of the infusion. Drink it hot or serve chilled over ice.

      Drink one cup three times a day.

    Use a Warm Herbal Tea as a Wash for Skin Allergy Symptoms (Hives, etc)

      Bring several quarts of water to a boil. Place all the herbs into a separate container. Pour the boiling water over the herbs.

      Cover the herbs and let the tea steep for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Strain the steeped herbs out of the infusion.

      Stir baking soda into the infusion and let cool to room (or warm) temperature.

      Use a sponge or soft cloth to apply an herbal wash to the affected area.

    Use an Herbal Tea to Make a Skin Allergy Poultice (for Hives, etc)

      Place all the ingredients inside a bowl : 4 tablespoons allergy skin wash (See Section Two Above), ¼ cup bentonite clay and 3 teaspoons of slippery elm bark powder.

      Stir into a paste. Set aside for approximately five minutes to thicken.

      Apply liberally to the irritated skin. Use a tongue-depressor or your fingers. Leave it on the affected area for a minimum of 30 minutes. (It will begin to dry on the skin). Wash off the poultice.

Tips & Warnings

  • These herbs have mild antihistamine properties: nettle is a popular herbal remedy for allergy symptoms; eyebright is an anti-inflammatory herb, and a favorite remedy for itchy, irritated eyes and runny noses; elder flower is a natural nose and sinus decongestant; yarrow and comfrey leaf have traditionally been used for respiratory conditions.

  • Bentonite clay is a natural and powerful healing clay that is popularly used in making an herbal poultice. It is also used as an invigorating cosmetic clay in the making of make up and other skin cosmetics.

  • Do not use chamomile in your herbal remedies if you are allergic to any plants in the ragweed family.
