  1. How to Wear Costume Makeup

    • 1

Pull your hair out of your face. Apply makeup to a clean face. Use toner or astringent and a moisturizer that is made for your type skin. Unless you are allergic to it, costume makeup does not harm your skin, but it’s always best to start with a clean and moisturized face.

    • 2

Use a clean makeup sponge to apply the foundation, smoothing it lightly all over your face. Theater makeup has more intense pigments than regular makeup so you don’t have to use a lot for coverage. When you get to your neck, do not add more foundation to the sponge; just use whatever is left on the sponge. This will avoid getting makeup on the collar of your clothes. Check your foundation in the mirror to make sure you have an even coverage.

    • 3

Use the powder puff to apply the loose powder liberally on top of the foundation. Then use the powder brush to brush off any excess powder. This dries the foundation and prepares it for the powder blush.

    • 4

Rub the blush brush across the powder blush. Look straight into the mirror and smile. Apply the blush on top of your cheeks, beginning where the middle of your eye is. Sweep it in a slight curve towards the upper part of your ear. Use tissue to remove excess.

    • 5

Dampen a tissue with water and carefully blot all of your face. This will pick up excess powder and help to set the makeup.

    • 6

Remove all makeup each night using a makeup remover. Follow with a thorough cleansing, toner or astringent and a moisturizer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before applying makeup, do a test to determine whether you have an allergic reaction to it. You can ask the sales clerk to apply a small amount of makeup to your face. Wait several hours and then wash off the makeup. If you experience a burning or itching sensation, or if a rash forms where the makeup was applied, do not use the makeup. Replace your powder puff when it gets soiled and wash your makeup brushes regularly.
