During the summer months, it's best to keep the oven off and keep things light and simple. Salads are perfect for summer side dishes and an easy and inexpensive one to make is the Top Ramen cabbage salad. This salad has the veggies you need as well as an added crunch and sweetness. Things You'll Need

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 package of Top Ramen noodles
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp. white distilled vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • Saucepan
  • Baking sheet
  • Whisk
  • Bowl
  • Spoon

Instructions

    • 1

      Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

      Melt 1/3 cup of butter in a pan and then add 1 cup of slivered almonds, one package of Top Ramen noodles and 1 cup of sunflower seeds. Stir the mixture and then spread it on a baking sheet, placing it in the preheated oven. Turn ingredients often and check frequently to make sure the mixture does not burn. When the ingredients appear to be browned, remove from oven.

      Shred one head of cabbage by hand into fine strips.

      Combine the cabbage as well as the almonds, noodles and sunflower seed mixture in a bowl.

      Mix the following ingredients in a separate bowl: 1 cup of vegetable oil, 3 tbsp. of white distilled vinegar, 1/2 cup of white sugar and the seasoning packet that comes with the Top Ramen noodles. Use a whisk to make sure the combination of the ingredients is smooth.

      Pour the liquid mixture over the dry mixture and toss together.
