Keeping a child's room clean and organized can be a challenge. All it takes is one afternoon tea party or action figure battle to make your kid's room look like a hurricane tore through at full force. With a few organizational tricks, you can keep the clutter at bay and make playtime clean up much less stressful for you and your child.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Low bookcase
  • Bookends
  • Baskets or bins
  • Toy box
  • Hanging storage compartments
  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Labels
  • Plastic garbage bags
  1. Step 1

Sort through all of your child's clothes and toys, placing items in a Keep, Donate or Trash pile. Chances are, there are plenty of toys and clothes that he has outgrown. This is a great activity to do with your child because it allows him to be a part of the organizing process and give you the opportunity to talk to him about why it's important to donate items that he no longer uses.

  2. Step 2

Gather up all of your child's books and place them on a shelf on the bookcase, anchoring the books with bookends as necessary.

  3. Step 3

Organize toys into piles of like items. Place small items like building blocks into baskets or bins then place the bins on the bookshelf. Place larger toys, such as stuffed animals and action figures, in the toy box and hanging storage compartments.

  4. Step 4

Type up and print out labels for all of the storage bins.

  5. Step 5

Fold or hang up all of the clothing you plan to keep then place it in the closet and dresser. Stow shoes neatly at the bottom of the closet.

  6. Step 6

Gather up all items for donation into plastic bags then take them to the nearest donation center. Place the remaining items from the trash pile into garbage bags and throw them into your outside garbage cans.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose colorful storage containers that complement your child's room decor to make cleaning up fun.
