Going to the Indy 500 or another racing event? Before you ever get out to the track, make sure to have all your supplies and needs ready to go with you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cooler
  • Ice or dry ice packs
  • Bottles of water or canned beverages, chilled ahead of time
  • napkins or wet wipes
  • sandwiches, fried chicken, or fruits and vegetables in plastic baggies
  • other snacks as desired
  1. Step 1

The night before the race is when you'll want to freeze the bottles of water and refrigerate the canned beverages. Make or purchase your sandwiches, chicken, or other picnic-type foods you would want, pack them into baggies, and refrigerate. Purchase ice and keep frozen.

  2. Step 2

Prepare for bed earlier than normal, so that you can wake earlier. Watch the weather forecast, and plan your clothing appropriately. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and running shoes are the most sensible attire. Set your clothes and other necessities (such as ear plugs, windbreaker, rain gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat or visor, and a blanket) out for a quicker morning routine and fast packing.

  3. Step 3

When you wake up, recap the weather, dress, and gather your supplies. Eat a small breakfast if desired.

  4. Step 4

Dry out your cooler, then add the ice loosely or pack into baggies. Lay beverages on the ice, followed by the food. Last of all should be the nonperishable items and paper products. Tuck more ice down the sides of the cooler, and it's ready to close.

  5. Step 5

Don your windbreaker or other sun/rain gear, adding ear plugs, sunscreen, money, and any other small personal items in your pockets. Roll up a blanket if needed, to hold in one hand, with the cooler in the other. Now you're ready to go!

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid wearing just a t-shirt and jeans, especially if you will be outside all day and may have to remove outer layers of clothing as the day progresses.
  • Be mindful of how long your sunscreen is good for, and reapply when needed.
  • Make sure to keep hydrated!
