How to Become a More Successful Salesperson
You’ve probably heard it said that salespeople are born, not made. That’s not true, especially in this age of specialization. Gone are the days when being a salesperson meant only that you were silver tongued and you wore shiny shoes. Today, salespeople must learn practical skills to be successful.

1
Have the look of a leader. Project an image that says you are a professional and can handle the relationship. Always look your best by wearing appropriate clothing and having a professional appearance. You are representing your company so you should instill confidence in both yourself and what you are selling.
-
2
Continually improve your effectiveness, both regarding knowledge of your products or services, and your ability to be of service to both your customers and your company. Take courses, attend seminars and create ways for your customers to offer feedback on your performance the product you sell.

-
3
Remember that “to err is human.” Fundamentally, a mistake affords you the opportunity to improve your performance, if you learn from it.
-
4
Network at every opportunity. It is very important to know your associates, competitors, potential customers and others in your field. Many a sale has been made as a result of a social event, even if it did not directly involve work.
-
5
Increase your self-discipline. Assiduously listen to clients and be aware of their needs, and above all, meet deadlines. Establish goals for yourself, with occasional benchmarks to assure yourself that you are remaining on track.
-
6
Have a winning attitude. Develop the philosophy that, if you don’t win this time, your odds of doing so in the future have improved. Along with a winning attitude is the element of persistence, without which your performance will be spotty, at best.
-
7
Occasionally recharge your batteries. Burnout occurs when you find yourself simply going through the motions, employing no fresh strategies or approaches, as if you are reading from a script. If that happens, take time off or pay closer attention to new trends in your industry. Don’t let the “same old-same old” attitude affect your work and your reputation.
